MJM Inc. will save more than USD $480,000 over a four-year period by not incurring overnight shipping costs on field video shipments.
MJM prides itself on sound and time-tested investigative techniques, supported by state-of-the-art surveillance technology, which enables it to offer reliable, intelligent and dedicated services to its clients.
THE PROBLEM:
With more than 400 Field Investigators in USA, Canada and Australia, MJM receives and processes more than 50,000 surveillance videos yearly. MJM was looking for a way to deliver video evidence to clients in a more timely fashion, while at the same time reducing their shipping expense. Shipping approximately 25,000 overnight packages through courier would have cost up to USD $800,000 over four years
THE SOLUTION:
Verviant designed and developed a Video Management System that delivers video evidence from remote field investigators to MJM in less than an hour. This results in less frequent shipments of physical evidence and a substantial reduction in associated shipping costs. To ensure timely and secure delivery of video evidence, Verviant designed the Video Management System:
• Using C++ and C# to convert and timestamp raw video files.
• Using .net web services and xml to track incoming videos and notify MJM of any issues
• Using SQL Server Reporting Services to provide management on system usage
• Using an Adobe Flex Dashboard to display overall system and upload status
BENEFITS:
MJM Investigations now has a standardized infrastructure that provides remote video upload with centralized management and distribution, and has increased productivity for Investigators and Video Production Assistants.
Centralized Video Management
"...Our organization will benefit greatly from the cost savings and operational improvements achieved by working with Verviant," says Carl Demarais, Vice President and CIO, MJM Inc. “Now we have an electronic delivery and management system for field video, and everyone can quickly and easily locate the video evidence they need.” Also, the system provides enhanced video management capability and an organized and centralized backup schedule for video evidence files.
Time Savings
Previously, MJM received DVD evidence in the mail and converted each into video formats as required by clients (.wmv, avi and such). Now that MJM has an automated delivery and conversion system, the Video Production Department spends less time converting and checking in videos. “Prior to implementation of our new system, we had to wait 2-4 days for videos to arrive from our field investigators before we could begin processing,” says Kyle Allmann, Lead Video Production Specialist at MJM. “We no longer have that built in delay, and we can now spend our time on custom requests from our clients and other important tasks.”
